Members of the team for NASA's Low-Density Supersonic Decelerator (LDSD) stand in front of the project's saucer-shaped test vehicle at the U.S. Navy's Pacific Missile Range Facility in Kauai, Hawaii. The vehicle will be flown high above Earth to test landing technologies for future Mars missions.

From left to right: Fuk Li, director of the Mars Exploration Directorate at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, California; Ian Clark, the LDSD principal investigator at JPL; Randy Lillard, the LDSD program executive in the Space Technology Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters, Washington; and Michael Gazarik, associate administrator of the Space Technology Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters.
