23 October 2004 This Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) Mars Orbiter Camera (MOC) image shows light-toned rock outcrops, possibly sedimentary rocks, in the Arsinoes Chaos region east of the Valles Marineris trough system. These rocky materials were once below the martian surface. These features are located near 7.2°S, 27.9°W. The image covers an area about 3 km (1.9 mi) wide. Sunlight illuminates the scene from the upper left.
