The light corner of the image is Lake Torrens, an ephemeral salt lake in South Australia. The twisted strata visible here is part of a rocky desert area in the Australian Outback. The black line that runs along one side of the image is a railroad that borders the mountains of the Flinders Ranges.

This image was taken from the Space Shuttle on February 15, 2000.
