This false-color image shows visible mineral changes between the
materials that make up the rim of the impact crater known as
"Endurance." The image was taken by the panoramic camera on NASA's
Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity using all 13 color filters. The cyan
blue color denotes basalts, whereas the dark green color denotes a
mixture of iron oxide and basaltic materials. Reds and yellows indicate
dusty material containing sulfates. Scientists are very interested in
exploring the interior and exterior material around the crater's rim for
clues to the processes that formed the crater, as well as the rocks and
textures that define the crater.
